WELCOME – English 11 – 2 SOL EXAMS!! OBJECTIVE – Parents and students will understand how to contact Mr. Rodriguez, how to find materials, and how important policies function. AGENDA – Introduction – Phoenix – Where to find more info – Important policies – Expectations Closure: – Exit Ticket

Mr. Rodriguez  From Lebanon, Pennsylvania  Graduate of Bloomsburg University of Pa  Potential JV Baseball Coach here at DHS  Third year with 11 th grade English here at DHS  Fun facts

Phoenix Parent Portal – Best way to be up-to-date on student progress On your exit ticket, sign in and include a working address for at least one parent AND for the student so that we may effectively communicate throughout the year. – HOWEVER, we strongly encourage your son/daughter to proactively contact his/her teacher(s) with questions or concerns.

Important Info ON THE LCPS – DHS Faculty page – Links to handouts, projects, due dates, vocabulary lists, roots/affix lists, quarterly plans, and even shoutouts to students for exceptional accomplishments – **Not guaranteed to be updated after every single day – students must use daily agendas to record assignments and due dates**

POLICIES Grading – Writing/Editing/Revising (50%) – Tests/Projects/Quizzes (15%) – Classwork (participation and preparedness included) (20%) – Homework (15%) Accomplishing homework and classwork consistently is the only reason a grade “bump” may ever be given. No extra credit assignments will be given. Late work – Late homework will not be accepted. By the time a student completes the tardy assignment the class will have gone over it and will be falling behind even more. Projects and essays will have a 10% deduction for every day that it is past the due date. Once the deduction reaches 60%, it will fall to a 0.

Expectations follow the behaviors that will be taught. come to class prepared. NOT disrupt class with personal problems, but can pose their issues to me personally at the end of the day. Respect ALL classmates and ALL faculty members. Attend scheduled clinics if they cannot follow these rules. STUDENTS WILL :

Expectations Have an open door policy. I’m willing to talk/help as long as I am not teaching. Answer s less than a day after receiving them. NOT change a grade because of complaints. NOT argue with a student/parent. Listen and converse with students if approached in a proper manner. Clarify directions, work, expectations, etc., when needed. I WILL:

Expectations Survive, understand, and thrive while learning different dimensions of writing, grammar, reading, vocabulary, and ourselves as people. Understand when it is time to be serious. Be in my home (classroom), my liveliness, my livelihood – be polite, respectful, and positive. NOT be “friends” but we will be friendly and respect one another in and outside of this learning environment. WE WILL:

Exit Ticket 1. These are the 4 most sought after traits once you enter the working world: Communication, Collaboration, Critical thinking/problem- solving, work ethic/”grit” – Which is your strongest, and which would you like to improve upon the most? 2. What is one reasonable expectation that you have for this year?
