3 About Me I would like to know more about you:
20th year teaching, third at Dominion My favorite part of English is teaching writing Parent of one fellow Titan and a future Titan I love to garden – perennials and organic vegetables I practice yoga daily I am motivated by anything creative – sewing, drawing, calligraphy, cooking I would like to know more about you: Student information sheet first week. The Writing Process, Thesis Statements, Analytical, Persuasive, Argumentative, Reflective, Research, Creative (H: Honors Project) Reading Selections from the textbook, independent reading selections, The Crucible, The Great Gatsby, Ethan Frome, The Secret Life of Bees, The Things They Carried Daily grammar instruction Vocabulary: Word Segments, Novel-specific words, SAT- prep vocabulary Grammar/Vocabulary Reading: Romeo and Juliet (common), To Kill a Mockingbird, Short Stories (from textbook and other sources), possibly The Boy in the Striped Pajamas – CHOICE READING (connections) (30 min./week) Writing: single and multi-paragraph writings focusing on details and purpose Oral Language: dramatic readings, critiques, formal and informal presentations Vocabulary: 50 core words (common), depending on pace of class will continue to add. I believe that close, open home/school communication is essential. I want to be available to you and reachable to ensure your (your child’s) success. I encourage students to me directly with concerns, questions, (confusion!) to advocate for their learning as adults. Mutual respect, even during times of frustration, is key to a positive relationship. I check my regularly.
