* A word that describes a noun is an adjective. * Ex: El muchacho pelirrojo es muy guapo. La muchacha morena es una alumna muy buena. Álamo
* In English, the adjective almost always comes before the noun. Ex. The serious students * In Spanish, the adjective usually comes after the noun. Ex. Los estudiantes serios (adjective) (noun) adjective noun Álamo
* In Spanish, an adjective must agree with the noun it describes or modifies. * If the noun is feminine, the adjective must be in the feminine form. Álamo
* Un muchacho gracioso. * Una muchacha graciosa. * Un alumno serio. * Una alumna seria. Álamo
* Adjectives that end in –e match both genders. Ex. El maestro inteligente. La maestra inteligente. Álamo
* Many adjectives that end in a consonant match both genders. Ex. El amigo joven. La amiga joven. Álamo
* Some adjectives that end in a consonant add –a to form the feminine singular. These exceptions have to be memorized. Ex. El chico trabajador. La chica trabajadora. Álamo
