2 Adjectives Words that describe people and things are called adjectives (adjetivos). In Spanish, most adjectives have both masculine and feminine forms.

3 Adjectives Masculine adjectives usually end in –o and are used to describe masculine nouns. Marcos es ordenado y simpático. Marcos is organized and nice.

4 Adjectives Feminine adjectives usually end in –a and are used to describe feminine nouns. Marta es ordenada y simpática. Marta is organized and nice.

5 Adjectives Adjectives that end in -e describe both masculine and feminine nouns. Take a look

6 Adjectives El chico es inteligente. The boy is smart.
La chica es inteligente también. The girl is also smart.

7 Adjectives When an adjective ends in -dor, it is changed to –dora to describe a feminine noun. Juan es trabajador. Luz es trabajadora.

8 Adjectives Adjectives that end in -ista, such as deportista, describe both masculine and feminine nouns. They do NOT change.

9 Adjectives Pablo es deportista. Pablo is sports-minded.
Paloma es deportista también. Paloma is also sports-minded.

10 Making Adjectives Plural
Adjectives also have to agree with a noun if it is singular or plural. To make adjectives plural, just add an –s if it ends in a vowel or –es if it ends in a consonant. Yo soy desordenada. Ana y yo somos desordenadas. Él es inteligente. Los chicos son inteligentes.

In Spanish, adjectives usually come after the noun they describe. Margarita es una chica artística. noun adjective

In English sentences the adjective comes before the noun, but in Spanish adjectives mostly come after the noun. Memorize this pattern

14 Placement of Adjectives
Subject + Verb + indefinite article + Noun + Adjective Margarita es una chica muy artística. Pablo es un estudiante inteligente. La Sra. Ortiz es una profesora muy buena.

15 Traduce a español: He is a nice friend. I am a funny girl
Marco is an athletic boy. You are an intelligent girl. Él es un amigo simpático. Yo soy una chica graciosa. Marcos es un chico deportista. Tú eres una chica inteligente.
