2 The name of a person, place, or thing is a noun. In Spanish, every noun has a gender, either masculine or feminine. Many Spanish nouns end in either o or a. Almost all nouns that end in o are masculine, and almost all nouns that end in a are feminine. muchachamuchacho escuelacolegio alumnaalumno

3 The English word the is called a DEFINITE article because it is used to refer to a definite or specific person or thing (the girl, the school). The DEFINITE articles in Spanish are el, la, los, and las. El is used with a masculine singular noun La is used with a feminine singular noun. Los is used with masculine plural nouns.
