Introduction to hotel industry What is hotel industry ? hotel industry is all about the business that can be in lodging, restaurant, theme park, service industry and various types of other service. Main priority : Provided customers satisfaction Comfortability Friendliness which is the main aspect of Malaysian Culture.

Type of Hotels 1.The hotel industry is divided into : City Center As the name implies, hotel industry is also located in urban centers. The reason for guests choose this type of hotel such as meets the needs of the travelling public for bussiness or leisure reasons that required them to always stay in the downtown area.  Residential hotel Guests whose staying at this hotel often live in quiet a long time, not one or two days only and is not alone. Boutique This hotel have their own unique architecture, style,decor, and smaller in size. It is suitable for people who want to honeymoon. Condotels It is combination of hotel and condominium.

Hotel resort Inclusive and diversified in accommodations Hotel resort Inclusive and diversified in accommodations. If for the hotel industry on this is prefer to take the location in the mountains or maybe the beach. Usually the customers are comes in groups or individuals who want to spent their off day in a quiet environment while enjoying the natural scenery around the hotel. Motel Ones type of hotel that have convenient place to stay. Also reasonably priced and with few frills. Customers who come are mostly people who are travelling far and wanted to rest before continuing their journey back. Convention Provides many facilities and also meets the needs of groups attending and holding conventions. This hotel suitable for meeting in a large amount of people and have full service oriented.

2. Based on the numbers of rooms -When counting the number of rooms, the hotel industry can be divided : Smaller hotel most totaling in 28 rooms Medium hotel provided between 29 to 299 inpatient rooms Large hotel have room more than 300 rooms

3. Classification Meant by classification is based on the facilities owned by the hotel. A hotel which does not only involve a place to stay, they also gives many other facilities to its customer such as coffee house, gymnasium, swimming pool, housekeeping, meeting rooms, restaurants, and many other facilities. A commercial establishment providing lodging, meals, and other guest services. A hotel must have an establishment which is a minimun of six letting bedrooms while at least three of it must have attached private bathroom facilities. Although hotels are classified into ‘Star’ categories (1-Star to 5-Star), there is no standard method of assigning these ratings and compliance with customary requirement is voluntary.

Definition of Syariah Syariah : Islamic thought and system in the Quran that releaved to Nabi Muhammad S.A.W as guided lifestyle thats called a Sunnah. Compliance : obedience and adherence to all Allah S.W.T ordered. Main objectives of shariah : to straighten truth and justice in the world. Principles of shariah : tolerance, release from burdens and occur gradually.  

The Principal of the Hotel that has Syariah Compliance Food and beverage No alcoholic beverage Cleanliness in cooking utensils and the preparation of food must in clean conditions. Has Halalan Thoyyiban food and beverage Regarding the Financial use Islamic Finance follow the Principles of Zakat for their hotel management. Operations and others bed and toilet should not face the qiblat staff attire must be covering aurat for women and hotel employee. hotel employees should practice islamic attitudes such as amanah and al-adl. no human depict in terior design and use islamic colligraphy art. .

Key Success Factor in Implementing Shariah Compliant Hotel

SCH OPERATIONS No alcohol Quran and prayer mats available in each room Halal food only The staffs are mainly Muslims Segregation of male and female staffs at segregated floors Conservative television service Quran and prayer mats available in each room

DESIGN AND INTERIORS Separate functin halls for males and females Position of beds and toilets not face the direction of Kaabah Markers in the rooms indicating the direction of Mecca Art in the hotel should not depict the human form No entertainment venues such as night clubs Separate welness facilities for males and females Separate floors for single male, single females and families DESIGN AND INTERIORS

Financial Hotel financed through Islamic financial arrangement Hotel should follow the zakat principles (giving back the community)

Here are some stipulations: The source of halal food and beverages must base on halal plants and animals Halal animals and non-halal animals must be separate. Like slaughter and stockpile. Processing, handling and distributing food must base on halal regulations Equipment must use halal materials. Hygiene must obey halal regulations.

Trends 1.The population of Muslims consumers and the growing demand by the Muslims travellers around the world make the concept of Islamic hotel as much as to be welcomed by the travellers. 2.The ‘conscious lifestyle’ would be the clients that value the environment, culture, heritage, wellbeing, and also the ecology of the places they go to. As a trend, this is a one of the benefit for Islamic hotels in niche market.
