Adjective Clauses A clause is a group of words containing a subject and a verb. What is an adjective clause ? An adjective is a word that describes, identifies or gives further information about a noun. What is an adjective clause ? An adjective clause is a clause that describes, identifies or gives further information about a noun.

Thomas Prime 5 – Unit 2 Adjective Clauses I thanked the woman. She helped me. I thanked the woman who helped me. I thanked the woman that helped me. Who or that are used for people. Who or that replace the subject.

The girl who I saw at the party was Jane. The girl whom I saw at the party was Jane. The girl that I saw at the party was Jane. The girl I saw at the party was Jane. Here, the relative pronoun can be ommitted.

After prepositions, use whom (people) and which (things). She is the girl I told you about. The meeting was nice. I went to it. The meeting to which I went was nice. The meeting which/that I went to was nice. The meeting I went to was nice.

Thomas Prime 5 – Unit 2 Adjective Clauses Whose is used to show possession. Whose replaces the word showing possession. I know the man. His bicycle was stolen. I know the man whose bicycle was stolen. Whose can never be ommitted.

The building where he lives is very old. Which can be used if the preposition is kept. The building in which he lives is very old.

Combine the pairs of sentences, using one of them as an adjective clause. She is the woman who/whom/that/--- we talked about yesterday. He is from the city in which I was born.
