Update on main achievements Programmes of Rounds 1 and 6 supported by the Global Fund 14 th General Meeting of Stakeholders 23 May th General Meeting of Stakeholders 23 May 2008 Zahedul Islam Director TPSM, International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Ukraine

1. Achievements till 1 May 2008  Following the advocacy triumph in December 2007 Methadone has already arrived in the country and being distributed to the regions.  Patients should start methadone based SMT by end of May in 38 health care facilities.  814 clients receiving Buprinorphine based SMT in 28 health care facilities which is exceeding the target.  Implementing PSM activities for PLHA Network for R6 procurement under a signed Grant agreement.  Following the advocacy triumph in December 2007 Methadone has already arrived in the country and being distributed to the regions.  Patients should start methadone based SMT by end of May in 38 health care facilities.  814 clients receiving Buprinorphine based SMT in 28 health care facilities which is exceeding the target.  Implementing PSM activities for PLHA Network for R6 procurement under a signed Grant agreement.

Challenges  State funding of HIV/AIDS treatment programmes after September 30, 2008;  Scaling up of methadone substitution maintenance therapy;  Implementation of STI control programs for vulnerable groups;  Current procurement schemes under Round 6 program for both PR’s are under serious threat due to Government’s refusal to declare imported goods as humanitarian aid.
