4 Challenges:Challenges: www.aidsalliance.org.ua  Lack of support in rolling out substitution therapy and constraints in registration and setting up projects with methadone  Insufficient national HIV/AIDS strategy and funding ensuring treatment and prevention continuum  Continuous changes in the Ukrainian government

5 Recent developments www.aidsalliance.org.ua  Grant agreements with 83 subrecipients for a total amount of over 42.5 million UAH  Increased access to VCT using rapid tests for vulnerable groups (  Increased access to VCT using rapid tests for vulnerable groups (25 570 people will receive VCT by September next year)  ARV in prisons: in 2007 over 100 HIV+ inmates will receive ART  ARV in prisons: in 2007 over 100 HIV+ inmates will receive ART (in Kherson, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Volyn, Vinnitsa, Dnepropetrovsk, Odesa, Poltava, Ternopil, Zaporizhja, Chernihiv oblasts and Crimea)

6 Next steps www.aidsalliance.org.ua  Harmonization with Round 6 proposal and with hopefully de-frozen World Bank loan as well as with other major interventions  Addressing programme challenges e.g. ARV treatment dropouts, growing needs in substitution therapy, and coverage of most at risk populations  Further benefiting from being on the radar screen
