IceBreaker Networking App User Testing

Product Overview Ice Breaker is a business app that helps facilitate face-to-face interactions at networking events in order to help people overcome social anxiety and maximize networking opportunities. Every attendee would receive an invitation from the event host/moderator to download the app, and asked to answer 5-6 questions about themselves such as first name, occupation, favorite topic of conversation, networking goal, etc. As each attendee participates, their profiles are added to the app. You can then further customize the app with things such as contact information, a photo, etc. If someone happened to find the app on the app store and download, they would not be directed to enter information, but instead would be prompted to find an event. Once you open the app, you can see who will be attending along with their answers to the questions. You would then be able to make a list of individuals that you would like to network with. You can either keep this list private, or notify the other person that you wish to meet in order to pre-plan. Once each attendee checks-in at the event, their profile turns green. You would then be able to select the other attendees that are also checked-in and send them an instant message alerting them you are ready to talk. After finishing your discussion, you can then easily share your chosen contact information directly through the app with one- touch.

Anticipated Usage Flow (continued…) Pick an Event Pick an Attendee Check in to Event Meet People Add to My List

Usability Test Results 1. Some users missed the fact that they needed to set up their Contact info in addition to the general profile. May need a notification after general profile set up. 2. Users often had to go back to the beginning to find their way back one page. A back button might be useful for helping users navigate. 3. Most users did not equate the logo (ice cubes in top right corner) with a home button. May need to consider altering this. 4. Many users reported feeling that the splash screen was too type heavy, and one user felt the Event Details page had too much information. 5. One user suggested the ability to login using Facebook. 6. One user suggested that Profiles should be meeting-specific. 7. One user indicated that they would want more control over what contact info they share and would like to customize that per-event to increase privacy.

Usability Test Results (continued…) 8. One user suggested adding back the feature that notifies a person that you want to meet. 9. One user felt that the Ice Breaker questions were lost on the Event Detail page. The suggestion was to instead turn them into a single, optional event-specific Profile question. 10. One user felt that he wanted to see the event attendees first before setting up a profile. 11. Two users thought that the tutorial would guide them through the set up step by step with pausing in between to complete the tasks. 12. One user felt that there was too many steps to add a user to a list. Perhaps a button could be next to each person to check off like when you delete s on iPhone so you could select several and add all at once just based on their occupation and employer). 13. One user suggested action items such as the ability to note a follow up action like make a follow up call, or link to your calendar to set up a meeting. 14. One user suggested a rating system like stars for contacts so you can recall who were the most advantageous matches, and perhaps a way to link two people together who may be more suitably matched.
