Learning Objectives Product Design To learn about the assessment criteria used to determine levels in Design and Make Assignments. To learn the meaning of a design brief. To learn how to solve a design brief using the 5 strands: RESEARCH DESIGN IDEAS PLANNING MAKING EVALUATING To identify key words from a design brief. To begin research into the key words

Design Brief Design and make a gift paper for a special occasion that is to be held for children aged 4-14 years. Your design must be colourful and use typography for the design. In addition you must use a computer aided design programme and a geometric tessellating pattern. Your gift paper prototype design can be either A4 or A3. Research Key Words This is a list of the key words that must be investigated & understood.  tessellation  typography  geometric shapes regular polygons C.A.D. industrial guillotine printing techniques

Research Homework Product Design Homework – Extended Task (2 weeks) Level 4 – Collect pictures and information about tessellation and gift paper. Level 5 – Collect information from 3 or more different information sources: Internet (useful websites technology student & bbc bitesize) Clipart Dictionaries Sketches Magazines Books Scrap gift paper Write down the information sources you used. Sketch 3 different gift paper ideas and show how it would tessellate. Strand Level Evidence Completed Research 4  Collect pictures of TESSELLATING PATTERNS and GIFT PAPERS to suggest 3 design ideas 5  Your research shows you have collected information independently about tessellating patterns and gift papers from 3 different sources.  Sketch 3 different gift paper ideas and show how it would tessellate.  Record the main findings of your research 1 hour homework

Example of a well laid out, thoughtful tessellating homework Use Google images and type in tessellation / Islamic art / gift paper. Have you studied tessellation, patterns or symmetry in maths yet? revise these topics and show your understanding by creating resources which can be used in this homework.
