Situation The sweets and chocolate industry has become a huge money making business globally. Sweets and chocolate make this country millions, through the selling of everyday sweets and also confectionary ranges which come out for special occasions including Christmas, Valentines, Birthdays and of course…..EASTER! The Easter egg market is one of the most exciting confectionary markets, with new ranges attracting more consumers every year. The Easter Egg gift market reaches all ages of the population - young and old alike. Design Brief Design and make Easter egg packaging using recycled materials only. Your client wants a new range to be sold in the leading supermarkets which are innovative, creative and most of all eye catching!

Environmental issues A product may be made with a high proportion of materials that cannot be replaced, or use chemicals that pollute the atmosphere. This can be harmful to wildlife and cause changes to the weather patterns and the land. Some production processes use high levels of non-renewable energy. Paper and wood are made from trees. In many parts of the world forests are being destroyed. This is known as deforestation. This is why sustainability has become so important and needs to be considered when designing new products. Can you name the 3 Rs which are used to provide guidance on how to minimise the damage a product does to the environment? R………………………………………… R……………………………………… R………………………………………… Environmental Graphics There is a wide range of graphic symbols used to show the environmental make-up of a product and its packaging. Can you find two of these symbols? Draw them below and explain what they are.

Product Analysis Print examples of good Easter egg packaging. Using a spider diagram label what makes them successful.

Inspiration Moodboard Cut out pictures from magazines, collect samples and print pictures off the internet to form a bigger picture of what you’d like your Easter egg packaging to look like Colour swatches, texture, materials, fonts, images, logos, background

Sketch ‘a’ thon! Complete as many sheets as you like, full of your own Easter egg packaging ideas. Label any key information.

Modelling Create 2 different models of your Easter egg packaging out of cardboard and photograph. Present them on here and label them explaining the idea behind them, how you put them together, was it easy/hard to make?

Final Easter egg packaging Draw below in 3D and then make your final design out of your chosen recycled materials

Evaluation of my project On the next page you need to evaluate your Easter egg packaging project. This means: o Writing about what went well in your work o Writing about what didn’t go so well o Using the word ‘I’ o Writing in the past tense to describe what you did o Writing in the present tense to judge your work o Writing in the future tense to think about next time Top tips: o Stronger writers will organise their writing into paragraphs o Super – dooper writers will use connectives to help it flow o Many writers may choose to use bullet points at some point o If you can use any words learnt in technology or Words of the Week then this will be impressive o You might use words like ‘might’, ‘should’ and ‘could’ when thinking back over their work Great connectives to use: Use of evidence this meant that this showed that I know this because for example for instance such as in the case of Cause and effect because as since as a result of as a result so in order to so that consequently therefore depending upon as long as accordingly eventually
