SOP STC Update Fall 2015

FALL 2015 Updates  There will not be a “large group” STC meeting during the fall.  Please save this PPT and refer back to the information as you begin testing.

FALL 2015 Updates There will be a meeting for new STC’s or anyone who needs a refresher on registering students on 10/06/2015 at Chesterfield Juvenile Detention Center. That meeting will begin at 10:00 and participants need to register on the Sign Up Sheet found at: Click “Events” and select the Sign Up Sheet for New STC Training

Testing Manuals Fall 2015 Writing Test Administration Manual: Writing Test Examiner’s Manual: Please download and print the manuals you need. Non-Writing Manuals will be posted later. Laurie will when they become available.

FALL 2015 Updates Students participate in the Virginia Assessment Program by taking: SOL Assessments SOL Assessments with accommodations (students with disabilities or ELL students) VSEP VMAST VAAP

FALL 2015 Updates Beginning in the 2015 – 2016 school year, the VGLA will only be available to eligible ELL students in Grades 3-8 Reading.

FALL 2015 Updates If you are using Proctor Cache – please Laurie. Pearson has updated Proctor Cache information.

FALL 2015 Updates Virginia continues to plan for TestNav 8. The current goal is to administer select elementary tests using TestNav 8 beginning in Spring Practice items using TestNav 8 will become available at some point during the school year.

*** NEW ACCOMMODATIONS for Students with Disabilities*** Several accommodations have been added to the allowed accommodations section of the Test Implementation Manual (TIM) and are described in the document Students with Disabilities: Guidelines for Special Test Accommodations. These accommodations were previously approved for individual students through the special assessment accommodation request process. The IEP/504 Team must consult the TIM for information and required conditions when selecting these accommodations.

NEW ACCOMMODATIONS Written Directions with Oral Directions - must be identical to the bold “say” directions in the Examiner’s Manual. Specific Verbal Prompts - only the following specific verbal prompts may be used to help a student with disabilities remain focused on completing the SOL assessment:  “Keep working.”  “Keep going.”  “Stay focused.”  “Focus.”  “Please continue with your test.”

NEW ACCOMMODATIONS Dictate to a Scribe The student may direct the scribe through the process of writing out calculations, making notes on scratch paper, and/or responding to TEI for the multiple-choice component of the Writing Assessment and/or on Non- Writing assessments. Dry Erase Board and Markers Additional Highlighters, Colored Pens, and/or Pencils

FALL 2015 Updates The following are no longer considered accommodations and are available to all students: Group size Environmental modifications Large diameter/pencil grip Assistance with directions Student read his/her test aloud (must test 1:1)

VSEP Reminders  Available to Students with Disabilities who are taking EOC tests and Grade 8 assessments required for Modified Standard Diploma.  Available for students in Grades 3-8 with special permission.

VMAST Reminders  Only available to Students with Disabilities working towards a Standard Diploma with Credit Accommodations or Modified Standard Diploma.  Only available for Algebra I and EOC Reading.

VAAP – NEW PROCEDURE Whenever a student who participates in the VAAP enrolls in an SOP, the SPED case manager will Laurie. We’ll handle SOP VAAP students on a case by case basis

OTHER REMINDERS  Contact Laurie if you need a paper/pencil test for any student.  Grade 6 Math will continue to be a Computer Adaptive Test.  Beginning in Fall 2015, Grades 7 and 8 Math will be a Computer Adaptive Test.  Sandra McLaughlin will post a modified (highlighted) SDU on the SOP website. You may use this one or you may use the one posted in Pearson Access.  Remember SOP’s will not perform expedited retakes for students who are NOT taking an EOC assessment needed for graduation. We will continue to provide expedited retakes for qualified students who need the verified credit for graduation.

Important Dates Writing 2015 – 2016 Remember, Writing is one session in Pearson Access. Fall and Spring Writing are no longer separated. SDU will be available in Pearson on 09/08/2015. *Grade 8 and EOC Online 10/19/2015 – 11/06/2015 *Term Grad (1 st attempt, online) 10/19/2015 – 10/30/2015 *Term Grad (2 nd attempt, online) 11/16/2015 – 12/11/2015 (Paper/Pencil Test dates vary. Contact Laurie if you have questions.)
