Security Security Investigation Audit Teams will monitor testing at some sites: Make sure: You and your assistants have signed a Test Security Affidavit. You account for all secure materials before, during and after each test administration. You turn in your testing materials to the locked storage room, except during actual test administration times. You keep answer documents and booklets together. You inform me or Donald of any testing irregularities.

Before Testing Student Test Preparation You may select an item from the CST released examples to review with your students by putting 1 item per day on the board. You may not copy the CST released items and make test prep booklets. Here is the link to the California Department of Education’s website with the CST Released Questions and Blueprints. Of course, you may download them and use them for instructional purposes, but you may NOT photocopy them for student use - overheads to use in class are o.k. Released Questions: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sr/css05rtq.asp Blueprints: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sr/blueprints.asp What strategies improve student performance? - Staff discussion

Before Testing Classroom Preparation Prepare room for testing- no instructional materials directly related to the content of the test should be visible to any students. These include, but are not limited to, multiplication tables, math formulas, vocabulary/spelling lists, phonics charts, maps, timelines, biological charts, etc. - Classroom compliance walkthrough on 4/25

Before Testing Teacher Preparation Prepare room for testing- no instructional materials directly related to the content of the test should be visible to any students. These include, but are not limited to, multiplication tables, math formulas, vocabulary/spelling lists, phonics charts, maps, timelines, biological charts, etc. Read Directions for Administration prior to testing Prepare quiet activities for early finishers

Before Testing Teacher Preparation For special education students, confirm what accommodations or modifications are allowed. Only accommodations or modifications written in IEPs are allowed. Please notify Sandy prior to testing for questions. If student used an accommodation or modification, record on STAR Class Record Sheet and indicate on a Post-it Note. Sandy will complete coding.

Before Testing Teacher Preparation If you receive a request from a parent that their child be excluded from testing, please direct parents to the site administrator immediately. Pick up STAR box from “storage room” by 7:35 a.m. each morning of testing.

Testing Expectations Please prepare students for the seriousness of testing environment, and remind them this is a time to shine! Please refrain from serving snacks during testing. All markers, water bottles, or other materials that might damage testing materials need to be removed from student’s desks during testing

During Testing Actively monitor students during testing Stay On Your Feet Circulating Report any test irregularities and questions to Administration ASAP Only read directions that are indicated in the “Say” box (May be translated when working with English Learners)

Accommodations vs. Modifications Using appropriate accommodations does not affect test scores. Students must only be tested with accommodations specified in their IEPs or 504 plans (IEP cannot exempt any students) Accommodations should match accommodations that students receive in daily instruction Accommodations are to be coded only if students actually used them

Accommodations vs. Modifications Modifications change test interpretation and invalidate score –Students who use a modification on any STAR examination shall not be included in the participation calculation for AYP and shall receive a score of 200 and a ranking of FBB for the purposes of calculating the API.

After Testing Please do not bubble any special codes on the answer documents/booklets. Place a “post it” on the answer document and Sandy will bubble it in. Daily record what students were absent and what test(s) the student will need to make-up.
