Symptoms of Syphilis Symptoms depend on stage General symptoms are swollen lymph nodes and painless sores Secondary syphilis experiences fever, fatigue, aches and pains, and loss of appetite Tertiary syphilis causes brain, heart, and nervous system damage. Many people do not show symptoms!

Treatment Antibiotics are used to treat syphilis. The antibiotic of choice is penicillin, yet doxycycline may be used as an alternative in individuals with a penicillin allergy. Penicillin is either injected into a muscle or vein, depending on what stage syphilis you have. Follow up blood tests are needed to make sure infection is gone

Jarish-Herxheimer Reaction?!? Reaction to treatment that some people experience Symptoms include fever, chills, headache, nausea, joint aches, and muscle aches Symptoms occur several hours after treatment and disappear within a day

If syphilis goes untreated… You can contract neurosyphilis which is an infection in the brain and spinal cord. Symptoms include blindness, dementia, depression, loss of muscle function, tremors, seizures, mental decline, paralysis, and poor concentration
