Music Magazine Evaluation Adjoa A Boafo

Magazine Forms & Conventions ~The way in which my magazine follows, develops or changes the conventions of a real music magazine The conventions for my music magazine, follow the norms, however the genre also defines what the magazine will look like. This includes; colours, fonts, pictures, adverts ect. Since my magazine genre is Rap, which is a sub genre of Hip-Hop I have conformed to the conventions of my genre by making my colour scheme to consists of dark colours, signifying the dark side of rappers, and the music they make and the lives they live, although their music is significant to my target audience which is teenagers from My magazine challenges the conventions of Rap by using a female artist to convey the message of Rap, rather than a male as it is generally done.

Representational Issues ~how my magazine represents social groups within society THE JOINT, represents the teenagers and young adult of London,My Magazine, caters for all of Hip-Hop although it is primarily Rap, with the inclusion of many Hip-Hop artists. My main Artist for the first issue, was born and bred in London and has experience on the streets so, by using her as my main focus, it represents the whole of the community and my target audience will be able to relate really well to the artist.

Institutions ~What kind of institutions will be distributing my magazine As the main inspiration for my magazine was the kids on the streets, My magazine is free and will be distributed in Schools, Colleges, Universities, Youth zones and centres and Urban retailers, such as JD Sports, Footlocker, D2Jeans,Uniqlo ect.

Target Audience ~Who my magazine is aimed at My Magazine is aimed at youths of any background and culture, living in London from the ages of As Said in My Rationale I am targeting the youth, not only those who enjoy and listen to Rap music, but those who will actually understand it. So I have decided to target males and females from the ages 15-25, this wide age group leaves room for a variety of different levels of understanding for my magazine.

Addressing My Audience ~How I appealed to my audience I chose to appeal to my target audience, using different things to attract them. On my front cover I used a NEW artist, that has not yet been identified to my audience and this may put off my readers as they do not yet know my artist. So to counteract this possible flaw I also then put on names of other famous artists, that are well known so that my audience will be able to identify with my new music magazine. Because of the genre I have decided to do because its Rap/ Hip-Hop, I feel that I had to be really creative with the models, props, colours, mise-en-scene and camera angles with this genre; just so that my audience will be that more comfortable and happy with my magazine.

Technical and Construction Issues ~what I have learnt about technology from constructing my magazine. Throughout the whole magazine process, right from the start when I was looking at different types of magazine genres and analysing them and my genre research and all the things that have led up to this evaluation, I feel that I have learnt a whole lot. I have learnt to analyse more efficiently, to look at the bigger picture and to go back and re- draft my work to improve it and also to take constructive criticism and use it. On the technical side I have learnt to actively use the shots I have learnt take pictures on a digital camera, and I have learnt that my colour props and mise-en scene all matter a lot, as is shown in the pictures I have taken. I would personally say that I am most proud that I have learnt to use Adobe Photoshop efficiently and to the best of my ability to make an outstanding music magazine.

Comparisons between Prelim. Task and Main Task ~How the school magazine task helped me to create this main task. Looking back, the first school magazine task helped in such a big way. It got me mentally ready to take on a bigger task and it gave me the basic skills of what I needed to make an even better magazine. For example on the Preliminary task I used Microsoft Publisher and for this main task I’m using Adobe Photoshop, which is 100x better than publisher. This will definitely visually show how I have grown from that first task we had done. I was happy with my school magazine but now I am extremely ecstatic with the look of my music magazine I didn’t know I had it in me. I am extremely happy with the work I have produced. And I am 100% sure that the Preliminary task had helped me reach this goal.

The End I have worked extremely hard to make this magazine the best it can possibly be, I am very happy with the work I have produced!
