Homework Corrections Teacher: Dr. Jake Assistant Chicagofire

Anonymous #1’s Homework I want to be an English teacher. Because I think it’s very great and helpful. The most important is I like children. Whenever I am with them, I 'm always happy.I hope to help all the students to learn English well. I’m a student now. I can speak English and Chinese quite well. I think English is very interesting. And I think I can learn a lot about England. I want to help children and I also want to go to England one day because I have a pen pal there. She is a student, too. Her name is Kelly. We are good friends. She teaches me English and I teach her Chinese. We help each other and learn from each other. What do you want to be when you grow up?

Anonymous #1’s Corrections I want to be an English teacher. This is because I think it’s very great and helpful. The most important part of teaching I like are the children. Whenever I am with them, I'm always happy. I hope to help all the students to learn English well. I’m a student now. I can speak English and Chinese quite well. I think English is very interesting. And I think I can learn a lot about England. I want to help children and I also want to go to England one day because I have a pen pal there. She is a student, too. Her name is Kelly, and we are good friends. She teaches me English and I teach her Chinese. We help each other and learn from each other. What do you want to be when you grow up?

Suggestions for Anonymous #1 This paragraph was great! There were only a few corrections, and they weren’t very big. Here are my suggestions for you. You shouldn’t start a sentence with because. Instead, use something like, “This is because” or “Why? Because” In some cases, you do not need the words the or very. Specifically, “I think it’s very great” should be shortened to, “I think it’s great” Same with “all the students” This should just be, “the students” Other than these two corrections, you did a great job! The other corrections were only slight mix-ups that you can fix easily.

Bob’s Homework Everyone has a dream, and my dream is to become a teacher. Teacher is a scared calling. They pass know ledge to the students. They don't pay I prerer to watch them grow look at them a little bit of good. so, I will be very happy. I must study hard for me dream. I will be a teacher.

Bob’s Corrections Everyone has a dream, and my dream is to become a teacher. Teaching is a tough job. They pass knowledge to the students. The students wouldn’t pay I prefer to watch them grow and give them a little bit of good. So, I hope to be very happy. I must study hard for my dream. I will be a teacher.

Suggestions for Bob There were a couple spelling errors in this paragraph, make sure to double check your words to make sure they are spelled correctly. Make sure you are using the right tense of word. If something is in the future, you have to make it sound like it is. For instance, instead of “the students don’t pay” You would say, “the students wouldn’t pay” Because those students will be taught in the future.” There are also a couple times when you used nouns instead of verbs. For instance, “teacher” instead of “teaching” But if you don’t know what verbs or nouns are, don’t worry, we will be going over them this lesson. Besides those corrections, this was a very well written paragraph. Great job!

Anonymous #2’s Homework I want to be a doctor When I grow up,I want to ba a doctor, because they can help the sick people and make them happy. They also can make me happiness.Mabye many peple think the hospital is very dirty, doctor in hospaital are very easy to ill,but I don't care about those.I think doctor is a sacred profession.I will try to realize my dream.

Anonymous #2’s Corrections I want to be a doctor When I grow up, I want to be a doctor, because they can help sick people and make them happy. They also can make me happy. Many people think hospitals are very dirty, and that doctors in hospitals can get sick very easily, but I don't care about that. I think doctoring is a sacred profession. I will try to make my dream come true.

Suggestions for Anonymous #2 Make sure to put spaces after commas, for instance, “When I grow up,I want to” Should instead be “When I grow up, I want to.” In some cases, you do not need to put commas. Remember, they mean a pause or break in a sentence. In your sentence, “I want to be a doctor, because” You do not need a comma after doctor. It should be, “I want to be a doctor because.” Like bob, there are some minor spelling errors in this paragraph. Remember to double check your words to make sure they are spelled correctly. This paragraph is also great. You did a great job, with only some minor corrections.

Today’s Lesson: Nouns, Verbs, and Adjectives Today we will be learning about nouns, verbs and adjectives. We will learn what they are, when to use them, and how to use them. Let’s get started!

Nouns In the English language, we use nouns very commonly. But what are they? Nouns are people, places, or things (objects). For instance, an apple is a noun. More examples are: tree, house, keyboard, door, and so on. You use nouns in most sentences without even realizing it. If you said, “Let’s go to the park!” You would be using the noun park. In fact, the word noun, is a noun! In short, you use nouns whenever you are talking about a person, place or thing. There are many different types of nouns that you can use for different sentences.

Noun Exercises Try making a sentence with at least 2 nouns. For instance, “I swam in the pool and biked in the forest. Find the nouns in this sentence: “I like to eat pizza and drink water” Make sure to type your answers in the chat!

Verbs Verbs are words that you use when you are doing something. To run or swim, those are verbs. To use, to play with, to find, Those are all verbs as well. There is only one main time when you use verbs. That is when you, something, or someone else is going to do something. For instance, “I’m going to jump over that fence!” Jump is a verb. Verbs also have past, present, or future tense. If you have done something in the past, you would use a past tense. (Ran) If you are doing something right now, you would use present tense. (Running) And lastly, if you are going to do something in the future, you would use future tense. (Going to run)

Verb Exercises Use a past tense verb in a sentence. For instance, “I ran 20 minutes this morning.” Identify the verbs in this sentence: “Today I swam in my pool and now I am writing. Type your answers in the chat!

Adjectives Adjectives are words that you use to describe a noun. There are many different types of adjectives, and each have their own purpose. For example, smooth is an adjective. In a sentence, it would be “The table was very smooth.” However, you can only use adjectives to describe nouns, not verbs. An incorrect sentence would be: “I swam rough.” This is incorrect because swam is a verb. This sentence, “Swimming was rough today.” Is correct because swimming is a noun. Using and understanding adjectives is hard. It might take you a little while to understand them.

That’s all for this summer! You guys have done a great job! It was amazing getting to teach you guys for these past months. We all hope you have learned many important things and that you have enjoyed these lessons. I think we all can say you guys have come a long way in a very short time.
