Objects of Verbs p

Direct Object  A direct object is a word or a group of words that receives the action of an action verb.  Direct objects answer the questions who or what.  Subject + action verb + who/what? –The climber caught (what?) –The climber caught the nylon rope.

Indirect Objects  Indirect objects tell to what, to whom, for what, or for whom an action is done.  Comes between the action verb and the direct object.  Subject + action verb + who/what (DO) + to whom/for whom? –The rescue team gives (what?) –The rescue team gives hot food (to whom?) –The rescue team gives the survivors hot food.

What to Eliminate  When searching for objects, eliminate: –prepositional phrases –adjectives –adverbs Ex: The adorable kitten caught the red ball in its paws. ball in its paws.
