 What is Facebook (FB)  Some facts about FB  How to create an account on FB

 Facebook is a social network website  Allows people to be friends and interact with each other no matter where they are  It was created by Mark Zuckerberg when he was a sophomore at Harvard University  The most popular social networking website in the world  Approximately 550,000,000 monthly visitors

 Became more than just friend-making website  Employers look at applicants’ Facebook pages  Cyber identity of an individual  For the purpose of this presentation, we’ll be guiding you through steps on how to make a Facebook account

Main Screen  Type on your website address

Add your information  Add your name, last name, account (username), gender and date of birth  Create a password  Click the green “sign up” button

Security Check  The next page will tell you that signing up for a FB account is free  A screen with a code will show up  Type the characters you see on this screen  Click the green “sign up” button

Link to your account  There are three steps more to open an account on FB  Step 1 ◦ Will ask you to provide the password of the e- mail account you provided on the main screen ◦ You can add the friends that you have on your e- mail contact list

 Step 2 ◦ Will ask you to provide your education and work background ◦ High School, College/University and Employee ◦ This will allow from people of those organizations to be able to see your profile

Upload own picture  Step 3 ◦ Upload a picture from your files or take a new one ◦ This picture will be the main picture in your profile and everyone that searches for you is allow to see it (unless you put it on private)

Additional Information  Once you created an account, you can customize your profile  Add additional information about you ◦ Family connections ◦ Relationship status ◦ Favorite Quotations ◦ Current City ◦ Likes & Interest ◦ Contact Information

Account Settings  You can also sync your Facebook account to your cell phone for mobile access  Control the information you share with your friends. Add privacy settings to the information viewed by your friends on your profile page

 Adding a FB is fun and easy but you have to be careful with the information you share  Helpful Hints ◦ Never share password with anyone ◦ Adjust your privacy control to match your comfort level ◦ Be cautious about posting personal information; especially information which could be use to identify or locate you offline. ◦ Block and report individuals who violate Facebook rules or send inappropriate communications.
