1 How to Select and Use Privacy Settings EL Civics Assessment Task 3

2 Social networking sites allow people to share messages, photos and even videos with friends and family Signing up with a site like Facebook can connect you with many people all over the world.

3 After you create an account and make a profile, go to Privacy Settings Sharing with our friends and family online doesn’t mean we have to give out our personal information. YOU control WHO sees your information Profile = a brief description of yourself

4 Basic profile information includes your name, gender, birth date and email address These are optional. You do not have to give this information

5 If you put information about yourself on your profile, you can decide who will be able to see it

6 There are 5 main settings that control who can see your Facebook page: Everyone Friends of Friends Friends Only Recommended Custom = Anyone on the internet = Anyone on the internet People who know your friends = = People you know = People you know Facebook’s recommendation = = Your personal choices

7 These Privacy levels tell Facebook who may see your information Your Information

8 Question: If you select Everyone from this menu, who can see your birthday? Answer: Everyone = anyone on the internet

9 Question: Who can see your information If your privacy setting is on Friends Only Friends Only Answer: Friends Only = People you know

10 Everyone Friends of FriendsFriends Only Facebook suggests allowing some of your information to be seen by Everyone, some by Friends of Friends, and some by Friends Only.

12 Who can see your Contact Q: Who can see your Contact information with this custom setting? A: Only Me (your personal choice)

13 When you see the “lock” icon, you can adjust your privacy settings privacy settings. Q: Who can see this photo album? A: Friends Only = People I know
