User accounts ICT sets up user accounts for staff and students and guests, providing authorised access to College’s IT. Your username and password are allocated before you arrive for use across all IT services at Imperial, from Student e-Service to your account and the WiFi network. If you have forgotten your College username or password, go to

and file sharing Your Imperial account can be accessed via any campus computer or using a web browser at:  for all undergraduates  for postgraduates and staff  We are in the process of migrating postgraduate and staff mailboxes onto the same system as undergraduates. You can add your account to your personal computer or mobile device: service/connect-communicate/ / service/connect-communicate/ / The file exchange service – allows transfer of up to 2GB files

Getting connected in Halls of Residence Most halls have telephones. Calls to College numbers and incoming calls are free. To make outgoing external calls, set up a pre-pay account: communicate/telephones-mobile/telephones/halls-of-residence-calls/ communicate/telephones-mobile/telephones/halls-of-residence-calls/ You can request a temporary guest account for visitors using the Guest Access system:

WiFi access in halls and on campus College halls have WiFi access in most areas. Alternatively, you can connect your computer to the wired network via a network cable - available from the ICT Service Desk. When you open your web browser you need to register to activate your internet connection. Devices must be authorised to use the College network Wireless devices connect to Imperial-WPA with your College username and password Detailed instructions for connecting are on website In general, most mobile devices (except Kindle) will work on our wireless network communicate/wifi-and-networks/ Eduroam (wireless on other academic and some Trust networks) communicate/wifi-and-networks/access-wifi/eduroam/ “WiFi ”

Imperial Mobile Download Imperial Mobile, the College mobile app is a mobile application enabling students to access College information and services anytime, anywhere. Campus computers Managed and installed by local ICT teams Software available is chosen by the department This campus has 48 Medicine cluster PCs on the 3 rd floor Commonwealth building, 8 in the Wolfson student common room in addition to two floors of library computers (accessible by 1 st floor Commonwealth building entrance working hours and ground floor entrance during weekends) Assisted technology software like ClaroRead and MindView are available All PCs are ‘frozen’ – Do not save work on C:\ drive The Library provides lots of services including access to public PCs, see Library Library There are around 3,000 PCs across College (Library, teaching rooms) for students to use “campus computers”

Saving your work: Home directory (H: drive) Secure personal storage space on College’s server is allocated to every student. Automatically mapped on login as H:\ Backed up every night Data is kept for 3 months You can recover deleted items by using restore previous versions (right click) communicate/the-data-centre-and-hosting-services/file-recovery-and- backup/ Your H: drive quota is 4GB (UG) and 8GB (PG) communicate/file-storage/home-directory-h-drive/ You can also connect to this space from your personal computers “home directory”

Saving your work: One Drive for Business Within Office 365, OneDrive for Business offers Cloud storage. All students can use it to store 1TB (soon to be unlimited amount) of data files. For personal computers you can use a Microsoft provided client to synchronise the data between the cloud and your local storage (if using Windows). (N.B. This facility is NOT provided on campus computers.) On campus computers – use the web client to access files on your OneDrive for Business

Printing Printing is managed centrally through ICTprintservice all around the College Documents are sent to a common print queue, meaning that you can collect them from any touch card printer Use your College ID card for access to the printers Costs set by each department (typically 3p for mono & 12p for colour) Top up online or via money loaders in the Central Library printing/printing/ “print service”

Software deals A range of free and discounted software is available, including AntiVirus programs. Go to the Software ShopSoftware Shop Students can install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and more on up to five PCs and Macs, plus five tablets, including iPad. All work can be saved online in OneDrive for Business and accessed from any device. Anything else to be aware of? Your computer desktop area This is part your user profile, this is limited to 50MB of storage (including system files) but logons will be slower and you will be more at risk of profile corruption the larger your roaming profile gets. If you try to store something very large on your desktop, and it does not copy to the server upon logoff it will be lost. Try not to use the desktop area for data but instead use links to your home directory or other drives. Any Questions?
