Featuring: Shanghai & Zhujiajiao Joseph Prior

Located in Jiangsu province, just outside of Shanghai, is a town called Zhujiajiao (also known as the ancient water city). This ancient town is situated on the bank of Dianshan Lake. The town holds roughly 60,000 people. Because of it’s natural beauty expressed in it’s maze of waterways, and the bridges connecting the village, it has been an inspirational place for many well known artist’s. ^^Shanghai^^ Zhujiajiao ^^^^

The scenic aspect of Zhujiajiao includes beautiful bridges, houses and boats. Many of the homes and bridges were built in the Ming and Qing dynasties around 1700 years ago. If it’s your first time walking around Zhujiajiao, try not to get lost in the zigzag alleyways!

In the 19 th century, the small city Shanghai started to grow because of it’s convenient location for fishing. It became a center point for trade between east and west. It has fast developed into the largest city China and is one of the largest metropolitan area’s in the world! It’s called ‘“the showpiece” of the world’s fastest-growing major economy’. A very common food in China nowadays, is the Little Dragon Bun (Xiǎolóngbāo). Steamed in bamboo containers and can be filled with many different ingredients including crab, soup, vegetables, or pork. It can be eaten by itself as a desert, or as a main meal. The food is mass produced and you can buy it as a frozen meal. Xiǎolóngbāo is so popular it can be found all over China.
