Introduction History Culture Classical Gardens Buildings Conclusion

Introduction Suzhou is a rather small city in China, which is located in the southeast of Jiang Su province. I think Suzhou is a beautiful place to visit and live. It is known as the Venice of China. Classical gardens in Suzhou are very well known. Well, do you know a typical Chinese saying? “Above there is heaven, and below there is Suzhou.”

History Suzhou is one of the most ancient towns in the Yangtze Basin. About 2,500 years ago in Shang Dynasty, local tribes of Gou Wu lived in the area which is now the modern city of Suzhou. It has been a metropolis of industry and trades on the south-eastern coast of China.

Culture People from Suzhou love sweet food. These are some of the famous foods they eat. Ballad-singing, or Suzhou pingtan, is a local form of storytelling that mixes singing (accompanied by the pipa and sanxian) with other parts in spoken dialect. Suzhou has the best dialect in China. When they talk, it is as if they were singing.

Classical gardens Classical gardens in Suzhou are very famous.
The gardens have been in Suzhou almost one thousand years, from the Northern Song to the late Qing dynasties (11th-19th century). Most of these gardens are built by scholars. The key features of the classical gardens are the designs with natural scenery of rocks, hills and rivers with pavilions and pagodas.

Buildings These two buildings are the tallest buildings now in Suzhou. They are called ‘The 188 Buildings.’ Most of the people in Suzhou live in flats, like other places of China. This is a picture of the bird nest in Suzhou.

Conclusion Don’t underestimate something small. No matter is it a country or a creature, etc. They might be very powerful or interesting in some way. If you really want to know a city or country, etc in depths. You need to live there and experience their culture. It is no use if you just go and be a tourist.
