Program History WHS advocated for a high-quality orientation program that would address the needs of new members of the SES DMRD 974 mandated the program in 1992 Two-week course of study was launched in 1994  One week residential and one week travel to COCOMs  Focuses a spotlight on the outstanding performance of SES responsibilities, as defined by the ECQs  A unique general educational offering that highlights networking and peer learning

Program Objectives Establish jointness as the approach for interaction among the OSD, the military departments, Defense Agencies, DoD Field Activities and the private sector, thereby integrating SES responsibilities with DoD component priorities Operationalize the SES role in DoD Transformation Provide an overview of DoD structure and processes critical to its operation Provide experiences that expand participants’ leadership and strategic thinking skills in the DoD context Provide structured networking opportunities with military and civilian colleagues, to reinforce information sharing across functional areas

Please sign-up for speaker introductions for Week 1 and Week 2 Responsibilities:  Based on speaker biography, give a brief introduction  Serve as timekeeper and warn speaker when 5 minutes are left in the session  Give speaker an APEX coin at the conclusion of the presentation to thank them for speaking to the group  Write a short, handwritten thank you note – staff will provide note card and will mail thank you notes to the speakers Speaker Introductions, Coins and Thank You Notes

Meals & Breaks Breakfast coupons are provided for use in the hotel restaurant daily from Monday through Friday Lunch  Lunch coupons are provided to use in the hotel restaurant for Tuesday and Thursday  Lunch will be provided at the Pentagon on Monday and Wednesday  Lunch will be provided at the State Department on Friday Dinner  Tonight and Thursday in the View Ballroom atop the Key Bridge Marriott  Monday through Wednesday provided in an adjacent room  Friday on your own

Week 1 Agenda

Monday 9/12 (8:00) and Wednesday 9/14 (8:30) at the Pentagon  Metro to and from Rosslyn Station (a shuttle bus is available to and from the hotel)  Metro cards were provided at registration table Tuesday 9/13 and Thursday 9/15 at the Key Bridge Marriott Friday 9/16 at National Defense University (NDU), United States Coast Guard (USCG) and the State Department  A chartered bus will pick us up at the hotel  Board at 7:15 am; prompt departure time of 7:30 am Week 1 Transportation

Bus transportation to Andrews AFB on Saturday will leave hotel at approximately 11:00 am Transportation while on travel  Bus transportation will be provided, please leave first two seats at the front open for staff  MILAIR will provide transportation from city to city (flights will be announced to you as they are confirmed) Transportation on the last day  MILAIR flight back to Andrews AFB with bus transportation to Reagan National Airport  Transportation will be provided to those with flights out of Norfolk or Newport News Week 2 Transportation
