INTRODUCING WITH TEACHER Md. Kamrul Haque (Masum) Headmaster Komorgram High Shool Mobile No. 01739714050 Email- headmasum1@gmail.com

Class: Ten Subject: English Second paper Unit : Fourteen Lesson: 01 Topic: Conditional Sentences.

Objectives By the end of the lesson, you will have learnt what a conditional sentence is. learnt classifications of conditional sentences. learnt the rules of conditional sentences. learnt the uses of conditional sentences.

what is called a conditional sentence? Read the following sentences: If you walk slowly, you will miss the train. If he reads attentively, he will pass the exam. I shall help you if you need. He will buy a car if he wins a lottery. Above sentences are conditional sentences. This condition is introduced by “If”. So, we can say that the sentence which express condition is called a conditional sentence.

Classification of Conditional sentences Conditional sentences are of three classes. They are:- (a) 1st Conditional or Probable Conditional. (b) 2nd Conditional or Improbable Conditional. (c) 3rd Conditional or Impossible Conditional. Besides these according to containing “if” Conditional sentences are of two classes: (a) Open Conditional [The sentence containing “if”]. (b) Closed Conditional [The sentence except “if”].

Rules (Structures) & Examples of Conditional Sentences [ If clause ] [ Subordinate clause] If+Present tense ,(+) Sub +shall/will/may/can+V1. Example: (a) If Taherul comes, I shall help him. (b) If Matin reads attentively, he may secure GPA-5. If+ Past indefinite, (+)Sub+ should/would/might/could +V1. Example: (a) If Mahbub passed the exam, he might get a prize. (b)If Sabina walked slowly, she would miss the train. If+ Past perfect, (+)Sub+ should/would/might/could +have+V3. Example: (a) If Polash had bought a ticket, he might have a motorcycle. (b) If Laila had come earlier, she could have finished her works earlier. 1 2 3

When we use comma in Conditional Sentences When the sentence starts with “If clause” a comma (,) is used after the clause. But a comma (,) is not needed when the sentence starts with main clause. Examples: If you run in the sun, you may become sick. (comma is used) You may become sick if you run in the sun. (comma is not used) If Alomgir rises early, he will be healthy. (comma is used) Alomgir will be healthy if he rises early. (comma is not used) If you need, Tarique will help you. (comma is used) Tarique will help you if you need. (comma is not used) a b

Class Works Now discuss the rules and structures in pairs and match the following sentences 1. If you read regularly 2. You could catch the bus 3. If you want to go abroad 4. I shall go 5. If you want to meet Krishna a. If you come today b. You should go to her school. c. You can pass well. d. If you ran e. You must have a visa.
