Agenda 10/6/11 Objective: Identify Electrical symbols Learn how to draw basic floor plans and elevations Agenda Quiz on Symbols Lecture on basic floor plans and elevations Begin Client Profile Project

6.06 Draw basic floor plans and elevations

GCFI Ground Control Fault Circuit Interrupter This is a type of circuit (electrical outlet) that helps prevent electrical shock

Architectural Drawings Universal language In proportion to actual size ¼ inch = 1 foot, also called 1/48 or 1/4”=12” CAD, CADD – computer aided drafting and design Now referred to as prints instead of blueprints Templates – plastic drafting tool for tracing shapes onto a floor plan

Types of Drawings Sectional-view taken from an imaginary cut through of a building (7-6 p181 HD) Exterior elevation-usually 4,one of each side, drawing of outside of the house (7-5 HD p. 181) Interior elevation – shows a wall of a room, with furniture and architectural fixtures

Renderings – realistic drawing with color Expensive done by hand Require expertise Done by: Pencil Ink Water color Color pencil Felt tip

Plans Plot plan-shows the location of the building on the site (p. 33, RH) Includes outline, streets, driveways, utilities, easements, fences, property lines, contour, vegetation Foundation Plan – shows footings, piers, columns, foundation walls (34 RH)

Floor Plans – heart of the drawings, 4 feet above the floor, windows, doors, fireplaces, stairs, built-ins, materials, scale, room names, sizes, (36 RH) Electrical plans – switches, lights, meters, wiring, door bell, lighting, appliances, (38 RH) Also can be climate control plans and plumbing plans.

(continued) Model – 3 D representation Detail – up close and personal of a small part of a floor plan or elevation Specs = specifications=a book of additional information that is not able to fit onto a floor plan

Assignment Select a room from the house you printed yesterday. Draw that room on graph paper. (floor plan) Create one wall interior and one wall exterior elevation of your house. Continue working on “Student Lounge” assignment

Alphabet of Lines Vary in thickness and weight Allow the drafter to communicate ideas quickly and clearly

Alphabet Phantom ____ _ _ ____ _ _ ____ Show alternate positions, repeats, or motion Visible _____________ outline of building or walls Hidden not visible in a specific view

Alphabet (continued) Center line ____ _ ____ _ ____ _ Shows center of an arc or circle Dimension and extension I  ½”  I size, distance Break line (look in book) p. 178 Show that the object continues on but the entire view is not shown

Alphabet of lines Section (crosshatch) ////////// Show that a feature has been sectioned Assignment: Use page 100 of the architectural drawing to locate as many of the “alphabet of lines” Describe what they are showing Complete Alphabet of Lines worksheet
