Overview of the Morning Look at the new curriculum Work expectations in Year 3 Supporting your child at home. Homework timetable Important days School trips.

The New Year 3 Curriculum

Work Expectations in Year 3 By the end of Year 3 children should achieve level 3C in Maths, Reading and Writing. By the end of Year 3 children should be using joined handwriting for all their written work. They should have a written method of calculation that they are comfortable with, to add, subtract, multiple and divide.

Supporting your child at home. Daily reading aloud to an adult (no matter what age or ability). To ask them lots of questions about what they’ve read to check their understanding. Read to your children – this models good reading and enables them to access more difficult texts. Spellings Ensure your child learns their spellings AND encourage them to understand the meanings and be able to use these in sentences. Being a good speller is not just scoring well in tests, it’s applying it to written work. Maths Help your child learn their times tables – They need to know the number sentence as well as being able to count in 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 or 10s. Using a watch or analogue clock to tell the time. Using money – get your child to pay for items and check the change.

Year 3 – Lower Key Stage 2 Homework Maths and Comprehension – Given out on a Friday and to be returned on Tuesday. Spellings – Given out on Friday and to be learnt for the following Friday. Reading and Times Tables – as often as possible.

Timetable P.E – Monday and Thursday. Hair tied back and no earrings. Afternoon play to be phased out by October half term. Lunch Time – 12.30pm Swimming - After Easter. A letter will go out to inform you.

School Trips Year 3 trip to the Museum of London on Friday 19 th September. Children to be in school by 8.30am. Letters will be issued for future trips in Year 3. Return reply slips to your child’s class teacher.
