Let’s make Urmary prosper Roman Yefremof Urmary-2008

Aims: To make Urmary prosper; To reunite our families; To benefit from tourism industry.

Objectives: To study thoroughly Unite 2 “People and their places ”; To make a survey among my classmates; To make forum on for bright ideas.

Ideas for attractive places What activities could local authorities develop that would attract tourists to those places? We could arrange bed-and-breakfast accommodation, so that people could experience life in the villages with a family; The other thing is that attracts tourists is having something to do near that place (e. g. walks, hunting, skiing, river trips) ; Developing local crafts and selling them. Visitors could watch things being made, which is interesting; To have activity holidays, which could attract groups of schoolchildren to the area.

We know that at least a theatre or a museum is needed to attract tourists. And if there are no theatres or museums we could build open air museum re- creating battles from the Civil War where a big group of people, all dressed in authentic costumes.

Ideas for unattractive places Big imaginative projects are required. Building the largest greenhouses in the world, called biomes in which tropical plants and fruits are being grown. This project is called the Eden Project after the Garden of Eden. It is built in an expit. It was a disused, unattractive area, which is now being made very beautiful. It was educational and ecological environmental aims. They attract tourists at all times of the year, especially on rainy days, when it’s not really suitable to go to the seaside.

Stages of a Project: forming an initiative group; forming a working group; employing a tourism company; setting up a company; applying for grants; implementing the project.

Urmary as a tourist destination: It is a good communicative centre. There is good railway service, bus service and taxi; It is neither a village nor a city; There are good cafes and a restaurant; There are good facilities for doing sport and recreating; We have good roads; It is beautiful; There are monuments and parks; There is a bank; There is a good hospital.

Results: We have all resources to develop domestic tourism: Bread-and-breakfast holidays (There are a lot of modern houses with modern conveniences and banyas in Urmary); Guesthouse holidays; Tailor- made holidays, but before that we could develop virtual tourism; An idea of designing an ethnographic museum in the open air which can combine activity and working holidays is also very attractive and possible.
