3 “An economic process by which rare and beautiful ecosystems and cultural attractions are marketed internationally to attract tourists” How does this contradict the model?

4 Aims of ecotourism Aims to build responsible tourism by managing capacity. Encourages conservation, through the education of both local people and tourists. Develops a focus on the environment by solving environmental problems and exporting ideas all around the world.

12 Exchanges of clothing or other personal materials is prohibited, nor are the community allowed to accept gifts. Visitors must not enter people’s houses without being invited and are not allowed to make promises they can’t keep e.g. sending back photos. All rubbish must be taken away by visitors. When in the rainforest: Do not touch any branches without looking carefully first. Do not pull down branches or vines. Do not go to the toilet near a stream, track or a lake. Visitors must avoid displays of affection. It is considered rude to hold hands or kiss in public. Plants and other animals must not be collected without permission. Visitors must never go off and walk alone.

13 Visitors from the USA and Canada are usually committed environmentalists. They travel by canoe and have a 2 hour hike to their destination. Includes walks through the jungle. Visit community projects. Quicha are expert guides and train their children, via an ecological training programme. Money from the tourism has led to major improvements to the services of the village.
