What is the cLc?

Media Server and Video conferencing 2011  Library of existing content classroom video licensed content.  Free to Air Television capture.  Video content embedded within VLE – available over internet.

Parent Portal – Late 2011

Dynamic Content – Using the web efficiently

WEB 2.0 Tools

eLearning Modules

eLearning Leadership Modules

cLc and Digital portfolios

Why are we moving to the cLc?

Myclasses – End of life  Server failure – Out of warranty.  Contract has been extended three times.  Dated technology.  Heavily teacher dependant.  Serious risks if myclasses was not replaced.

VLE (cLc)  Extensive consultation and tender process spanning in excess of 30 months. Multiple ICT sector network meetings CEO Forums Teaching and Learning Committee Approach to market Open Tender Extensive evaluation panel Project Board ICT Committee Pilot with 8 schools  Funded from Smart Schools:Smart Students program.  Tender specifically refers to delivering significant efficiencies in management of the environment: MAZE integration Digital Content Single Sign On  Efficiencies in the delivery of the Internet Gateway

cLc  Not mandatory – Tool for teaching and learning. If it doesn’t enhance the teaching and learning for your students…..don’t use it!!  Schools focussed – Company has extensive history in working with schools and school regions. Tender explicitly requested this.  Replacement for myclasses. Myclasses is end of life and will be removed. Like for like replacement. Significant workload savings. Well resourced to accommodate change process.

Current responsibilities in Editure versus cLc Editure  SINA Administrator Manage all Internet accounts in the school Manage password resets and internet account balances. Manages reporting for inappropriate content.  Teacher Responsible for managing membership of classes. Responsible for online content and communications (journals, forums). cLc  cLc Coordinator Internet accounts automatically generated. Passwords reset automated. No $$ need to cap internet access for students. Create groups from MAZE classes. Manages and inappropriate content reporting via the “ACTSafe” button.  Teacher Groups automatically updated via MAZE. Responsible for online content and communications (wikis, blogs, forums).

Change  Any change process requires additional effort.  Heavily resourced in first 12 months: Myclasses $70,000 cLc $430,000  Valued the pilot experience Staged implementation. Available to all schools by end of 2011.

Support  All Schools – One full day fully funded cLc coordinator One ½ day Cybersafety Officer After school modules at the CTL 24 self paced eLearning modules  Staged Implementation (12 schools per term) 5 days of training for between 3-5 staff plus school leadership over a term Access to expert international trainers  Ramping up additional support (LTOs)

Take up  cLc beat Google as the most downloaded site in ACT schools in August  51 Schools have access to cLc  Remaining schools opened up in term 4.  Committed to an ongoing staged implementation.

In summary  This is a good news story for our Department  Myclasses is end of life  Any change process requires a transition.  We have resourced transition phase accordingly.  How to ease the administrative burden of the environment was at the forefront of our thinking.  The cLc does deliver significant efficiencies for coordinators and teachers once implemented.  It has achieved significant uptake already in a very short time. (Beating Google)  The vendor is bringing interstate and international visitors to witness the implementation because of the quality of our teachers work.  We are always open to addressing concerns in a proactive manner.  If any schools are experiencing issues please get them to contact me directly and we will target resources appropriately.
