Connected Classroom Program February, FLN 2009 Update Learning Tools Project The Connected Classrooms Learning Tools (CCLT) Project objectives are to provide: A secure online workspace for staff and students with the ability to create, store, edit, reuse, manage, view and deliver digital learning content from collections and repositories. Access to parents/caregivers to view their children’s reports online. An email service to school and TAFE students to replace the current UNISYS email service. Teaching School and TAFE staff the same email service as DET corporate staff by migrating existing accounts from UNISYS to DET’s “in-house” email service. An adaptable and scalable system that will be able to deliver the latest Web 2.0 technologies to staff and students.

Connected Classroom Program February, FLN 2009 Update Challenges & Achievements - 2008: Network upgrades & Filtered Internet Browsing A total of 900 sites have had their network upgraded to 10 Mbps. Filtered Internet Browsing has been brought “in-house” Student Email Approximately 1.2 million school and TAFE students have been provided with and are now using a new email service, Google’s G-mail. Connected Classroom Program February, FLN 2009 Update Planning activities are underway for the: Next 400 “Phase III” school IC installations Network upgrades to complete1641 sites Network upgrade contract negotiations for the remaining 800 sites VoIP implementation Procurement of VC core infrastructure. Procurement of desktop data collaboration software Trialling of Web 2.0 learning tools, Blogs & Wikis Procurement of online storage through an EOI procurement process. Development of an “Trialling/Evaluation Framework” for monitoring, reporting and governing the delivery of program benefits. Next 6 months…
