Honesty Components of Communications: Respect “I” Message Active Listening

Look at the person talking, show interest by nodding and facial expressions. Encourage person – “Do you want to talk about it…?” When there is a pause.. Show that you are interested, Ask a question, ”Then what happened” Summarize what the person says, Make sure you heard them correctly as to what upset them, or excited them. DO NOT GO ON TO YOUR OWN PROBLEM and ignore theirs.

How to handle situations Passive Hoping the other person guesses your feelings Always listening but not talking Criticizing yourself, always apologizing Mumbling, fidgetling, Always giving in. Aggressive Using “you” messages to blame the other person Interrupting, being sarcastic Making fun of someone’s feelings, Always wanting your way.
