STORY TIME

Remember: Ancient Greece, which was close to Egypt, had myths too.

Pandora Prometheus, a Titan, was responsible for creating mankind.

But Prometheus was displeased with this job, so he stole fire from heaven, and gave it to man..

Zeus was angered, and commanded the other gods to create a woman, using water and earth.

Her name, Pandora means "all-gifted" because she was beautiful, curious, and intelligent.

Hephaestus, the god of fire, then delivered Pandora as a bride for Epimetheus, the foolish younger brother of Prometheus.

Zeus had given Pandora a jar as a wedding present and told her not to open it.

Her husband, Epimetheus, stored the jar on a high shelf to keep Pandora from temptation. Prometheus warned his brother not to trust Zeus or his presents.

Pandora couldn’t resist the temptation, her curiosity was too strong.

So she opened the jar which Zeus had given her as a wedding present, and released the swarm of evil spirits trapped within.

Pandora tried to replace the lid, but it was too late.

All the evils, like disease, hatred and selfishness, had escaped and would ever afterwards plague mankind.

Only Hope remained behind, as a single trembling bird, as a blessing to help mankind in their suffering.

The End

In each box, add an event from the story with a picture and a sentence to explain what is happening

Make a comic strip

Remember last time we learned: 1. A cause is a situation or event. 2. An effect is the result or outcome.

Now make your own from the myth we just read CauseEffect

1.What motivated Zeus to give Pandora the jar? Answer: Because he was angry at Prometheus

2.Was Pandora wrong to open the box? Explain why you feel this way. Answer: This is an opinion question, there are many possible answers.

3.Was Zeus wrong from giving Pandora the box? Explain why you feel this way. Answer: This is an opinion question, there are many possible answers.

Thank you and I’ll see you next time.
