Results  Jefferson won in a landslide  Jefferson received 164 electoral votes to only 14 votes for his Federalist opponent

Issues of the Election  Ohio became 17 th state  12 th Amendment passed so first election in which electors are caste separately for President and Vice President (George Clinton V.P)  The success of the Louisiana Purchase and expansion of the United States secured this landslide victory for Jefferson!  However, Jefferson’s successes soon withered away during his 2 nd term
