WHO IS GANDHI? http://www.blogandrew.com/gandhis-sugar-addiction/ Name: Mahatma Gandhi Born: October 2nd, 1869 Died: January 30th, 1948 (78 years old) Known for: Leadership of Indian Independence and non-violent protest

WHAT IS Transformational Leadership? Transformational Leadership is a style that focuses on a bigger change through commitment to vision. http://www.movieleadership.com/2013/01/25/great-leadership-quotes-gandhi/

The steps used by leaders to make change Challenge the process involves identifying a problem that needs to be improved or changed. Inspire a shared vision involves being able to explain and share your vision to others. Find a group of people who also share the same vision, and understand the affect it has on people. Enable others to act involves creating a plan that will achieve the goal and sharing that plan with others that way the change can happen. Model the way involves demonstrating how to make the change happen, and actually doing the things you ask your followers to do. http://ayuapwhp2.wikispaces.com/Indian+Independence

Characteristics of transformational leaders Idealized Influence involves gaining trust and confidence of those who are following you. Inspirational Motivation involves urging followers to move towards new goals through motivation. Intellectual Stimulation involves followers in developing new and different solutions to common problems and conducting work in new ways.  Individualized Consideration involves treating all followers equally and giving respect

Gandhi’s transformational leadership Gandhi is a perfect example of a transformational leader. He was able to identify problems that needed to be fix, and come up with ways to fix them. He knew how to lead a group of people and inspire them to work towards change. Gandhi was very good at giving motivational speeches that helped inspire his followers. Inspire a Shared Vision Challenge the Process In the film, Gandhi noticed the problem of racism that India had. He realized that anyone who wasn’t white was considered a second class citizen. Gandhi identified a problem, and worked on ways to improve the situation. Inspire a Shared Vision There was a scene in the film where Gandhi was giving a speech. He explained how they needed to eliminate the difference between the people, and how they were all children of god. During the speech he was able to share his vision to others. http://www.thehindu.com/features/kids/gandhiji-an-inspiration/article3954474.ece

The idea of burning the passes was his way of enabling others to act. Enable Others to Act At a time Gandhi protested the use of the passes. He asked his followers to burn their passes as an act of defiance against the registration and immigration law. The idea of burning the passes was his way of enabling others to act. Model the Way Gandhi modeled the way by burning his own pass. Even when the British Started to beat him, he continued to throw passes into the fire. By doing this, Gandhi demonstrated how to make the change happen. http://scnc.ukzn.ac.za/doc/TEXTS/kc/kctext2.html

Inspirational Motivation Gandhi gave many speeches to his followers Idealize Influence Gandhi gained trust and respect amongst his followers every time he took a beating from a British solider. By not fighting back, he demonstrated his vision of non-violent protest. Inspirational Motivation Gandhi gave many speeches to his followers motivating them to continue with the non-violent protest. http://lprnoticias.com/2014/09/16/day-history-sep-16-1932-gandhi-begins-fast-protest-caste-separation/

Intellectual Stimulation During many of Gandhi's speeches, he changed his followers minds and hearts. He enlarged his vision and clarified the importance of their protest. Individual Consideration Gandhi respected and treated all his followers equally. He spoke to everyone, and got involved with their lives which made them feel important.

Inspire a Shared Vision Challenge The Process After India was freed, Gandhi realized that he now had a new problem to face, the slavery between the two religions. Inspire a Shared Vision Gandhi believed in non-violent protest. To inspire that vision to his followers he explained how he was a Muslim, a Hindu, a Christian, and a Jew and that all everyone was doing was creating fear. http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/885370/Salt-March

Enable Others to Act Gandhi wanted all the religions to be a part of the newly unified India. He offered Jinnah The Prime Minister ship This enabled the Muslims to take part of India, and to allow the country to not slit apart. Model The Way When the rioting started to happen again in India, Gandhi modeled the way by fasting again. After a while, all fighting ended, and Gandhi stopped fasting.

A transformational leader is someone that focuses on a bigger change through commitment and vision. They are able to lead a group of people towards change. Gandhi was a transformational leader because he could see a problem and seek out ways to fix it. He was a good motivational leader, so he had many followers to help him fix the problems India was faced with. He lead his country in an honorable, nonviolent way. When confronted with problems he always looked to the peaceful way, rather than spread chaos and violence. Gandhi was the voice of India, and the leader of so much more.
