Description An okapi is a mammal that lives in Central Africa. They can run 37 miles per hour. They are also related to giraffes. Most of them are five feet tall to their shoulders. They weigh about 550 pounds. They have dark brown striped hindquarters. An okapi has toed hooves. 1

Habitat Okapis live in Central Africa near the upper Congo River. Baby okapis live in a nest. Most okapis live alone. And they mark their territory with their scent. This is were okapis live. 2

Diet An okapi is a herbivore or a plant eater. They eat leaves, fruit, shoots, and berries. They even eat clay.But they have to travel to find food. They can even swallow their food whole. Here is a okapi eating twigs 3
