Behavior Expectations Each student is expected to do their very best. Sixth grade students need to be positive examples to students of all ages. We will work together to establish our class rules on the first day of school. We will expect students to follow these rules in all areas of the school whether they be in class, recess, prep time, halls, lunch or assemblies. Bullying will not be tolerated.

Discipline All choices have consequences. We want our class to be a happy place where each student feels important, valued and safe. Positive Behavior will be rewarded with praise, positive reinforcement and tickets. Tickets will be drawn in a random drawing each Friday for prizes and treats. Negative Behavior will be addressed as follows: 1. Warning 2. Moved to a “think time” seat 3. Filling out a behavior contract and parents notified 4. In unique or extreme situations, there will be special consequences. For example, student may immediately be sent to office and parents notified

Communication Our main source of communication will be through . Occasionally we will send a paper copy home. It is important that we have a good address for you. Please give us an that you check often. When you are finished viewing this Back to School PowerPoint, we ask that you complete a very short form, which can be found on either of our websites, stating that you have seen this. If you don’t have internet access at home, please let us know and we will send a paper copy home to you.

“my.DSD” Account In addition to the printed end of term report cards, students and parents can access grades at any time via their “my.DSD” account.

Homework Students are expected to read at least 120 minutes per week. Students will have a weekly spelling test, and are expected to study words as needed. We will give plenty of time to complete assignments in class. Any work not finished in class will be considered homework and will be due the next day. Occasionally, larger projects will be assigned and will need to be completed at home.

Come Prepared! ◦ Students are expected to be on time and ready to learn each day. In order to do this they will need: ◦ Pencil(s) ◦ Pen(s) ◦ Completed Assignments ◦ Reading Book ◦ Planner (signed by parent) ◦ Water Bottle (We do not have a drinking fountain in our classroom.) ◦ Good Attitude

Water Bottles We do not have a drinking fountain in our classroom. Please send a water bottle with your student on the first day that can be kept on their individual desk. Pop-up tops are best to help avoid spills. Please replace or keep them clean as needed. Water bottles will be removed from their desks if they become a distraction.

Planners The goal of our planners is to help students to be responsible, organized and to complete assignments on time. Students will fill out the planner each day with the homework they have for that night. Parents should look for the planner each night and then sign or initial the planner once you have seen that your child has completed all homework listed in the planner. Students need to bring the planner back to school daily. It will be a valuable tool in keeping them organized.

Tuesday Folders Blue folders will come home on Tuesdays and contain important school information and we ask that you sign the folder and have your student return it on Wednesdays.

Supplies The following items would be very helpful if you could send with your child on the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. If you can’t, we will supply them for you. Pencil case (small plastic kind for under a dollar at most stores) 5 tab dividers for a 3 ring binder Dry erase marker(s) Old sock for an eraser Pencil(s) Pen(s)

Absences It is extremely important that your child arrive on time to school each day. When a student is tardy or absent, he/she misses hours of valuable instruction time. While we are very willing to help them when they return, it is not the same. As sixth grade students, it is their responsibility to get any work they missed when absent. Students should complete missed work within one week. Please call (801) by 9am to report an absence.

Parent Volunteers We welcome classroom volunteers! Sign up sheets will be available at our Back to School Open House or send us an .
