70 th anniversary Friday 6 th June 1944 D Day The liberation of Europe

Best wishes to Yr11 (and Yr10 Science exams) Exams continue today

Question. What do these people have in common?

Answer They all wear a uniform or have to stick to a dress code at work: Clothes Shoes Make-up Jewellery Hair colour Beards! They all have to conform to certain expectations

Expectations? People expect me to dress in a certain way People expect teachers to dress in a certain way People expect students to dress in a certain way That’s just the way it is!

Uniform/Dress Code Assembly June 2014

Why is uniform important?  Governors set the rules and they want a uniform  The vast majority of parents and students value uniform  Uniform looks smart  Students tell us they feel smart  Uniform encourages a sense of belonging  Dressing for school is associated with positive work habits  Uniform helps reduce the lure of expensive branded clothes

Focus on uniform Weekly uniform focus Tutors in tutor/assembly time Spare items in Time Out Black footwear, ties, jumpers, trousers Replacement footwear is sprayed and clothes washed And basic equipment… No student should leave a lesson to sort out uniform

Remember Uniform list is shown in the school planner Uniform list is sent home at the start of the school year Uniform list is displayed in tutor rooms SO STUDENTS ARE VERY AWARE OF THE RULES Parents were sent a text-alert before half term to inform them A letter has been posted on the website informing parents SO PARENTS/CARERS ARE AWARE OF THE RULES

Canvas type shoes with coloured trim/sole NOT ACCEPTABLE You will be expected to change into school footwear

Skin-tight black leggings NOT ACCEPTABLE You will be expected to change into school trousers

Jumpers NOT ACCEPTABLE You will be asked to remove and wear school top

Hoodies around school NOT ACCEPTABLE You will be asked to remove non- zip hoodies and provided with school top

School ties should be worn neatly Clip-on ties is a possible solution

Caps and hats – not in school

School equipment You are required to bring basic equipment daily

It is…. It is your responsibility to arrive at school dressed correctly It is a requirement if you want to attend this school It is the responsibility of tutors to challenge all those students not in the correct uniform It is not OK for students to get annoyed with staff when challenged about uniform

Finally Thank you to the vast majority of you that do come to school day-in day-out in the correct uniform Staff recognise that it is not FAIR when a small number of students think they can wear want they like Rules have to be applied equally and consistently if we are to achieve EQUITY

Let’s be proud of our school Let’s be proud of each other
