The humanitarian aid pledged by the U.S. government to Kenyan people is the right policy. These are people who have been born into a developing country. The food and medicine gives these people some hope in a continent in which most have written off. We do have a responsibility to help those less fortunate. On the other-hand, Kenya is a nation fairly well off compared to some of its neighbors. The nation is rich in natural resources such as oil. It also now exports coffee and tea in large sums. With Kenya’s new found exports and tourism, this nation should be able to begin to take care of its own citizens, and be able to scale back reliance on American aid. Another reason for an interventionist policy in Kenya! Security: Kenya is a neighbor of two nations who have had Muslim extreemist activity. Somalia and the Sudan. By helping this nation with its poverty problem as well as giving them technology to tap into their resources. (Ex. Drought tolerant farming techniques, water pumps, filters, and oil drilling technology.) This will protect them from revolution inside and out. Quotes- Con’t “I am very happy because with the increased income, I have been able to buy a dairy cow for the family’s milk, educate my grandchildren and build a better house. Now, I don’t struggle to buy the farm inputs needed to maintain the high yields: seeds, fertilizer, and chemicals,” said Rodah Kibuchi, a Kenyan farmer who improved her farming techniques thanks to USAID’s program.

Conclusion: Once again, an Interventionist policy in Kenya is the right policy to help an improving nation and ward off the threats of terrorism. But, I think the U.S. should reduce the aid to not only Kenya in future years but most nations. Scale back the money and force these nations to manage their money and country better and become self sufficient.
