Movements of live aquatic animlas within EU Before import live fish, molluscs and/or crustacea into the Croatia, farm must be authorised as an aquaculture production business by the competent authority. If imports of fish, molluscs and/or crustacean are within the EU, consignments only need to be accompanied by a health certificate if they include species that are susceptible/carriers of, a disease controlled in Croatia.

Importing live fish, mollusc and crustacea from outside the EU Countries that are not in the EU or a member of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) are treated as ‘third countries’ for import purposes. Imports of fish, molluscs and/or crustacea from third countries must be accompanied by a health certificate issued by the competent authority in the country of origin. The authority must follow model documents issued by the EU Imports that arrive in Croatia directly from a third country must go through a border inspection post (BIP) where the health certificate is inspected by Animal Health (AH).

Risk based animal health surveillance The aim of the animal health surveillance schemes is to detect any increased mortality in all farms and mollusc farming areas, as appropriate for the type of production, as well as to detect the diseases listed in Part II of Annex IV to that Directive, in farms and mollusc farming areas where species susceptible to those diseases are present. In addition, pursuant to Part B of Annex III to Directive 2006/88/EC, inspections carried out as part of such schemes also aim at advising the aquaculture production business operators on aquatic animal health issues, and where needed, at undertaking the necessary veterinary measures.
