National aquaculture development: current status and future goals  Bosnia and Herzegovina has a very long tradition in salmonid and cyprinid fisheries due to the significant water resources - seven river basins with a large number of rivers, mountain lakes and groundwaters  Bosnia and Herzegovina is entitled to 25 kilometers of coastline of the Adriatic Sea which is completely located in the municipality of Neum  The most important fish species in the aquaculture sector of B&H: Salmonidae (rainbow trout, brown trout and brook trout) Cyprinids (carp, grass carp, silver carp, bighead carp) Sea species (sea bass and sea bream) Molluscs (mussels and oysters)

National aquaculture development: current status and future goals  Central level of authority- Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations coordinates activities in the process of legislation harmonization with EU in the field of fisheries  Within Ministry a working group for Fisheries is established, taking over EU legislation in the field of fisheries. The fishery group includes representatives of the authorities and representatives from the private sector, primarily breeders of carp, trout and sea fish

National aquaculture development: current status and future goals  Local level- the entity level including fisheries are located within the ministries of agriculture and inspection administration and cantonal authorities in the Federation  Founding programs in fisheries, as well as the entire agricultural sector, are the responsibility of the entity

National aquaculture development: current status and future goals  Fish species that are most represented in the cultivation - rainbow trout and carp  Rough estimate- 65% of trout production in B&H is taking place in the Federation and 35% in the Republika Srpska  Almost the entire production of carp being carried out in the Republika Srpska  Production of marine species is concentrated in Neum, where there are two cage farms total area of 0.36 hectares

National aquaculture development: current status and future goals  The support payement structures for fisheries is on the basis of a given premium for fish production  In 2011 the total value of premium for fish production amounted to KM 424,515.45 (217,054. 63 EUR) and compared with 2010 it is lower by 50% or KM 427,627.48 (218,645.81 EUR)  In 2010, the total value of premium for fish production amounted to KM 852,141.93 (435,699.93 EUR) which is about 40% less than in 2009 when the total value of premium for fish production totaled KM 1,209,614 (618,475.30 EUR)

National aquaculture development: current status and future goals The value of the premium for fish production in Bosnia and Herzegovina (2008-2011.)

National aquaculture development: current status and future goals  The largest share of this production and related premium refers to the growing portion size rainbow trout and rearing brown trout fry for stocking open waters  Funds were allocated through investments, as follows: Construction of ponds for fish farming, Construction of ponds for breeding marine fish, Construction of ponds to accumulation lakes, Renovation and expansion of existing fish farms, The purchase of equipment for fish farms

National aquaculture development: current status and future goals  Key areas that require support to develop the national aquaculture sector - Targeted fisheries policy should clearly define the priority areas and gradually increase the proportion of funds marked for measures to assist, within the available budget  Priority areas could go towards the development of aquaculture and fishing in fresh water, then processing and marketing of fishery products

National aquaculture development: current status and future goals Key constraints to national aquaculture development  Administrative procedures- High costs and time consuming, delays in development of farms, processing plants  High cost components in fish farming - from stocking costs, feed costs, energy costs, and post-harvest handling costs

National aquaculture development: current status and future goals I As conclusion it can be said that Bosnia and Herzegovina should strongly supports the further expansion of fish farming in particular the poorer sections of the population, which is an important tool for development and income in rural areas

National aquaculture promotion: status and future efforts  The main aquaculture products that can be promoted in international and/or domestic markets  Salmonidae (rainbow trout, brown trout and brook trout)  Cyprinids (carp, grass carp, silver carp, bighead carp)

National aquaculture promotion: status and future efforts  Export Promotion Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which operates under the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina (http://komorabih.ba/)  2014 Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Swiss Program for the Promotion of Imports into the EU and Switzerland (SIPPO), organized a workshop on "Access to the EU market and eco-certification for fisheries and aquaculture products.„  The workshop is organized with the aim of promoting exports of fish and fishery products to the EU and Switzerland

National aquaculture promotion: status and future efforts  Bosnia and Herzegovina last year produced 18 million pieces of fish  12 million is exported the European market (source FTC)  The biggest problem for manufacturers is a small tariff quota for fish exporting into the EU, which amounts to 60 tons of trout and 120 tons of carp, adding that therefore are not competitive on the European market  EU urges B&H to free a number of products of duty from the Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to make a concession in relation to export fish to the EU (source Trade Chamber of B&H)

National aquaculture promotion: status and future efforts Key actions need to be done to promote the national aquaculture sector  Strengthening promotion to other markets through a system of institutions  Make higher consumers accessibility to the products

National aquaculture promotion: status and future efforts Key constraints  Limited Budgets  Market Needs  Products pricing  Lack of Access to the Product
