14 Aquatic animal diseses surveillance Annual order for animal health protection: - list of disease in aquaculture - time period for controls and - frequency for controls Contract veterinary practitioners/veterinary clinicscollection of samples Expenses are on the APBs

15 Time period and frequency of controls VHS –Viral hemorrhagic septicemia (VHS), samples in trout -at least twice a year in early spring for offspring and late autumn for parent flock; IPN –Infectious pancreatic necrosis (IPN), examination shall be carried out in June for offspring and in December for parent flock; BKD –Bacterial kidney disease (BKD) samples in trout - in early spring and late autumn; SVC –Spring viremia of carp (SVC), - early spring and KHV –Herpes virus disease (KHV), in July/ August

16 Aquatic animal disease diagnostics Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM)-Skopje - National reference laboratory Has laboratory quality management systems in place - ISO17025, ISO9001, but no accredited methods for any fish diseases diagnostics molecular diagnosis, bacteriology, serology, parasitology 1 PhD researcher on fish diseases and 5 more other laboratory trained researchers in different areas – bacteriology virology, serology, molecular diagnostics
