Definition of fossil fuels. Fossil energy is that which comes from biomass from millions of years ago and has undergone major transformation processes to the formation of high- energy substances such as coal, oil, or natural gas, etc.. There is a type of renewable energy, so it is not considered as biomass energy, but is included among the fossil fuels. Most of the energy used in the world today comes from fossil fuels. They are used in transportation, for electricity, for space heating, cooking, etc..

Uses of fossils fuels. Fossil fuels are limited resources that are used for energy. Its use causes air pollution, greenhouse gas generators, acid rain and respiratory illnesses. The coals are used as fuel in power plants to produce electricity. Oil is the basis of a large number of products such as paints, solvents and especially fuels. Approximately 95% of global transportation petroleum consumption. Natural gas is another source of high calorific power. Produces less CO2 than other fossil fuels. Its use is increasing around the world.

Advantages of fossil fuels - Oil: High calorific value (good performance) Regular source of energy You can get variety of products starting in the oil -Coal: High energy It can be consumed in the same extraction site Transport costs are saved -Natural gas: Natural gas has a competitive price. It has several operational advantages over other fuels. Its combustion is much cleaner than other fuels, which facilitates compliance of stricter environmental standards. Given the clean combustion, to explore markets that previously was difficult to enter by environmental restrictions.

Disadvantages of fossil fuels. - Oil: Cause as much pollution when used to produce and transport One of the most studied problems today is that arising from the huge amount of CO2 that we emit into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels. Another negative impact associated with burning oil is acid rain, ie rain instead of benefiting not favorable. The damage resulting from the production and transport occur primarily by oil spills, accidental or not. -Coal: Coal mining and burning cause significant environmental problems and also have negative consequences for human health. Today, in developed countries, mining companies are required to leave the landscape restored when they have finished their work.
