I cannot wait to have a break. I plan to sleep until noon. When I wake up, there will be so much baking and cooking to do! My favorite tradition is to bake tons of pies. My husband and I always bake at least six pies. Two years ago we made squash, pumpkin, apple, and cherry. It is wonderful apple pie! I love the crumb top on the apple pie, and it is best fresh from the oven. I know it is ready when it has a dark, crisp shell. However, the best part is making the first cut. The aroma fills the air with tantalizing flavors that would make anyone think of grandma’s kitchen. Then, I finish the pie off with a huge dollop of whip cream!

Comma Quiz Please clear your desk of everything except a pencil or a pen. Today you will take the comma summative. Please read all directions and make five corrections. When you are done, please turn it in at the back of the classroom. Then, you may finish your analysis of “The Hero’s Test” using Hero’s Journey. If your group finished yesterday, you may read. Directions- There are five errors in the paragraph. Identify each error and highlight it. Then, rewrite the sentence correctly on the back or use your editor’s marks. The errors will be serial commas, fragments, and run-ons. You earn ½ point for correctly identifying the error and ½ point for fixing it. Total: 5pts

Video Comparison First, we will watch another version of Theseus and the Minotaur. Then with your groups discuss how these two versions are similar and/or different. (3 minutes) Second, we will watch a video that explains a variation of the plot mountain called, Hero’s Journey. Hero’s Journey-Group Discussion (5 minutes) Think back to the discussion question about what “The Hero’s Test” would look like if it took place today. How would Hero’s Journey play into your outline of your new story? Did you use all the parts when you created your story? Where else have you seen this outline used in fiction? How does it relate to real life?

Practice Topic Sentence (3 minutes) Pretend you were asked to defend a the character’s actions: -Ariadne betraying her father -King Minos feeding children to the minotaur -The minotaur eating children Write a topic sentence introducing why they should be forgive or “cleared” of their wrong doing. Example: King Aegeus had to give the children over to King Minos because he wanted to protect his people.
