Media Center Staff Mrs. Kennedy, Media Specialist (left) Mrs. Wright, Media Clerk (right)

Media Center Passes Students must get a pass from their teacher to come to the media center. Students may come to the media center up to twice a day. Passes should be worn around your neck.

Inside the Media Center When you come into the Media Center, use an inside voice and please do not run. Please use the following steps to find a book to check out and read!

OPAC – Online Catalog You can look up what books we have on OPAC, our online catalog. If you don’t know how to use it, just ask Mrs. Wright or Mrs. Kennedy. It’s also fun just to browse the shelves too!

#1 Get a shelf marker A shelf marker is the first thing you should get when you come into the media center. A shelf marker marks the spot where a book goes on the shelf while you are looking at it.

#2 Look for a book Look for a book that may interest you in the storybook, chapter book, or non- fiction rows.

#3 Use your shelf marker Select the book you’d like to look at and slide your shelf marker in next to it. Pull the book out and leave the shelf marker on the shelf, marking the spot where the book came from.

#4 Decide if you want it Look at the book. Read a page to see if it’s on your reading level. Decide if the book is interesting to you. If not,….

#5 Put it back carefully Put it back in carefully by your shelf marker if you don’t like it. Make sure the spine is facing out so it doesn’t go in backwards.

#6 Go look for another book Pull your shelf marker out and go look for another book that interests you. Don’t take too long deciding! Your teacher expects you back in the classroom in 5-10 minutes.

#7 Find a book & check out Once you find a book you want, walk to the checkout desk. Wait for Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Kennedy, or a parent volunteer to assist you.

#8 Tell them your I.D. number Tell them your I.D. number, which is your lunch number also. If you can’t remember your number, please tell them your first and last name, so they can look it up.

#9 Scan your book Once your number is typed in, you can scan your book under the red scanner light. Your book is checked out! It is due back in two weeks! Enjoy!

#10 Return your book When you’re finished with your book, slide it into the book return slot. Now you can go look for another book to enjoy!
