Blaine Street Elementary
Welcome to the Media Center Welcome to the Blaine Street Elementary School Media Center.

Our Media Center Our media center strives to be a positive learning environment that provides students and teachers with quality services and materials that will promote a love of reading and student success in all academic areas. To help achieve this, our #1 rule in the media center is to show respect: to ourselves, others, and the materials. Now come on and let’s begin our tour.

Easy Readers The easy reader section is on the back wall of the media center. Here you will find fiction picture books. The books are in order by the author’s last name.

Non-Fiction On the other side of the easy readers and around the corner, you will find the non-fiction section. The non-fiction books are organized by the Dewey Decimal System. There is a chart on the side of the non-fiction shelves describing the Dewey Decimal System, and the shelves are labeled with the specific Dewey categories. The books in this section are in order by the Dewey number and the author’s last name.

Fiction The fiction section is made up of mostly chapter books. The section begins where the non-fiction section ends and wraps around to the entrance of the media center. The books are in order by the author’s last name.

Biographies The biographies are located straight ahead when you walk through the door. They are non-fiction books that tell the story of a real person’s life.

Circulation Desk The circulation desk is where you come to check out and return your books. Kindergarten, first, and second may check out one book at a time. Third, fourth and fifth may check out 2 books at a time.

Checking In Books When you are finished with your books, you should place them in the book drop to be checked in.

Work Area The tables in the media center can be used for group work, projects, independent work and reading.

Computer Stations The computer stations can be used for research, creating projects, and looking for a book. Click on “Web Safari” to search for the book you want.

Web Safari To search for a book, type in the title, author, or subject and select the type. Click “go” to view the results of your search.

Looking for a Book When looking for your book on the shelf, make sure you bring a shelf marker with you. We want to keep the books in the right order, so when you take a book off the shelf, put the shelf marker in it’s place to save it’s spot.

Professional Section The media center is a great place for resources for teachers too. The professional section is on the wall to the left, behind the circulation desk. Here you will find books and periodicals for educators.

Teacher Work Area The teacher work area is behind the circulation desk. In this area you will find the laminator, die cuts, a paper cuter, audio books, CDs, videos, and DVDs.

Thanks for Visiting! Rigby the Rabbit says, “Thanks for visiting the media center.” Bye!
