Butterfly Life Cycle A Web Quest for 1st Grade Science Christa Casavant

Introduction Do you know where butterflies come from? In this WebQuest you and your partner will learn about butterflies You will use the Internet to see each of the 4 stages of the butterfly life cycle · The egg · The caterpillar · The chrysalis · The butterfly

Task #1 Review of butterfly knowledge. Assign students into pairs. Partners will look at other butterfly web quests and review their findings about the following: Where do butterflies come from? Look at a Swallowtail butterfly. Watch a video of a caterpillar hatch from its egg!

Task #2 Color poster of the four stages of a butterfly. Create different art projects of butterflies: –Color a picture of a monarch butterfly. –Create “Eggs on a Leaf” art project. –Create “Egg Carton Caterpillars” –Create “The Adult Butterfly”

Task #3 Discuss and write a paragraph (4 sentences) of what you and your partner have learned. Try to answer some of the following questions: Do butterflies grow up differently from people? How do these insects change as they grow? How many stages do they have? What do the stages look like?

Evaluation Teacher will provide a rubric to asses the students work! I hope you learned more about butterflies during this web quest!
