4 Stage One-Little Egg  Butterfly eggs are usually round or oval.  Eggs can be found on leaves of plants.

5 Stage Two: Larva or Caterpillar  Caterpillars hatch from the egg stage.  Once hatched caterpillars grow larger by eating leaves and plants.  Caterpillars come in all shapes, sizes, and colors depending on the type of butterfly.

6 Stage Three: Pupa, Cocoon, or Chrysalis  Once the caterpillar has eaten enough plants and leaves it builds a chrysalis on a branch or leaf.  While in the chrysalis the caterpillar transforms into a butterfly

8 Stage Four: Butterfly  Once the Pupa has finished growing it will break from the chrysalis.  Once the butterfly is completely removed from the chrysalis it moves its wings and learns to fly.
