T URTLES HAVE CERTAIN CHARACTERISTICS THAT MAKE THEM A REPTILE. H ERE ARE SOME OF THE ATTRIBUTES. Reptiles are cold-blooded. Many turtles have dry, rough, scaly skin. They lay their eggs under sand on beaches. They breathe through lungs.

A S EA T URTLE S A PPEARANCE The sea turtle has no teeth. It has a hard shell. Sea turtles however cannot pull their heads into their shells. They have fewer bones in their shells which makes them lighter in the water. There are seven types of sea turtles.

T HE S EA T URTLE S A PPEARANCE Sea Turtles that have protective bony shells around their bodies. The upper shell is called the carapace. Some turtles pull their head and legs inside their shell and snap it shut. When danger is around some turtles go in the shell to hide from predators. The Sea Turtle is different. It cant pull its head all the way into their shell.

T HE L OGGERHEAD T URTLE S E YES, E ARS, NOSE AND M OUTH The sea turtle have noses to breath in oxygen. They can hold their breathe for a long time underwater. The sea turtle has small holes for her to hear predators. It has no teeth at all, but it has a sharp beak to cut its food. Loggerhead Sea Turtles see better at night.

H ABITAT A Sea Turtle lives its whole life in salt water. The Sea Turtles front feet are like flippers. To swim, he moves both front flippers at the same time – like a bird flapping its wings.

P REDATORS Female Loggerhead Turtles comes on shore to lay eggs. The most dangerous time for sea turtles is when the babies hatch and walk back to the ocean. Many babies will be killed by sharks, birds, crabs, and large fish. Humans used to kill turtles for food. Now the Sea Turtle is protected.
