Animals with a backbone

2 FISHES CHARACTERISTICS Live in water. Have a backbone.
Breathe with the help of gills. Gills are covered by gill covers. Body is covered with scales. Scales are small, thin, flat, plates that protect the body of a fish. Several fins are attached to the body of the fish which help in swimming.

5 AMPHIBIANS Moist skin Slimy to touch
Adults –live on land, breathe through lungs, lay eggs in water. Young amphibians---stay in water, breathe through gills, move and live on the land as they grow into adults.

7 REPTILES Have a backbone Scaly and dry skin
Breathe with the help of lungs Many reptiles lay eggs and young ones hatch out of them Eggs are leathery and tough. Turtles are the only reptiles with a shell on their body.

9 BIRDS Beak Two legs Tail Two wings covered with feathers.
Reproduce by laying eggs.

11 MAMMALS Skin covered with hair. Give birth to young ones.
Young ones are taken care of by the mother. Breathe with the help of lungs.

12 Blue Whale: Lungs to breathe Aquatic mammal Can hold breath for a long time Have broad, flat limbs called Flippers which help to swim. Spiny Anteater & Platypus They are the only two mammals which lay eggs They are called Mammals still because they feed their young ones with their milk.
